Fall Soccer Registration Opens on Aug 14

Are you ready for some soccer???

We are!  With COVID parameters in place, we will begin our AHSA Commandos Soccer season with a parent/player meeting on Friday, August 14th, at 5pm, at Moore Park, Field 28.  For those who do not know the park that well, you should enter Moore Park off of University Avenue on Sonny Roy Lane, then after the road turns to the right and then back to the left, go down to the baseball field that you will see on the left hand side in the corner.

While we meet with the parents, the players will have a little soccer skill and conditioning session and get their own brief introduction to the team and the program.

At the meeting we will talk about the upcoming season and answer any questions that you may have.  In preparation for that talk, here are some key points to know:
  • Our league is comprised of homeschool athletic organizations and small private Christian/Catholic schools around Louisiana.  The soccer program is coed and open to kids aged 10-19 (see more on eligibility below).  We will have both a JV and Varsity squad.
  • Soccer Camp:  This year our camp will be only for registered players.  It is scheduled for September 1-3, at times to be determined in the late afternoon/early evening.  Cost for the camp will be included in your registration fees (that amount is yet to be determined).
  • Practices:  Scheduled to begin after Labor Day, they will probably be on Mondays and Wednesdays, perhaps with optional practices on Fridays. Our goal is to practice twice a week.
  • Games:  While we will not have the schedule until sometime in mid-September, we expect our games to begin in early November.  We will have 1-2 games per week and may not practice when we have two games in any given week.  We will not know how many games we play until the final schedules are out.
  • Season Ends:  Usually in late January or early February with the State Tournament.
  • Eligible Ages:  Must be 10 years old by 9/1/20, and not older than 18 by 9/1.  We technically there is no minimum age to play on the varsity squad, there is a maximum age of 16 to play on the JV squad.  Some players may have the opportunity to be on both the varsity and JV squad as determined by the coaches.
  • Organization Membership:   Each family is required to register as a member of AHSA and pay a $10 annual fee.  League rules do NOT allow players to be a part of more than one organization.  For example, Little Joey cannot play soccer for AHSA and also play football for the Defenders.  While it is unfortunate that we and other organizations do not offer all sports, this is the rule and it must be adhered to.
  • COVID:  Please note that there will be significant and important rules to abide by due to the coronavirus pandemic.  These rules are not suggestions and are not up for debate.  Violating them could lead to disqualification of our team.  We will do our best to convey these rules to you, AND we ask that you please be patient with us and willing to cooperate no matter what your feelings or beliefs are regarding what we are required to do.
